Let the painting begin!!

As with any new house, you will always yearn for new things to put in it. Right?

Well I do ... I'm sure it's just another excuse to buy more things in my hubby's opinion, but for me it's a way to stretch my arms out and play with new things! Having said that, it's just not possible to go out and buy all new things to go into the new house ... but that doesn't mean I cant buy 'almost new' and freshen them up!

So with a plan in mind it was off to the local flea markets with my family in tow. When there we came across these great matching end tables and coffee table that I just had to had. They sang to me right away because of the unusual shape and structure to them. Plus, they weren't all swirly and fancy which just isn't my cup of tea. Upon seeing these tables I knew instantly what I could do with them taking inspiration from my Umbrellas shot taken in San Antonio.

Here's you can see what one looked like after a little bit of sanding.

Next it is full speed ahead with 3 different and BRIGHT shades of spray paint. The plan is to pain them all 3 different colors and then repaint in black. Once the black is all dry I will hit the edges lightly with some fine grit sand paper to gently expose the brighter color under the black. Keep your fingers crossed that this will look as good in person as it does in my head!

Here's 2 colors so far.

Yes, I know they are bright but that's the point!
Keep up with the fun! More to come for sure!

Let's talk WORKSHOPS!!!!!

Yes, I am talking WORKSHOPS again! It's been way too long since I have hosted a photography lighting workshop and I plan to fix that! LOL!

I love teaching these classes but I cant help but think that this also might be a great way to simply meet by new "neighbors" in Kansas City. The location will actually be an easy one for me to come up with so now the search will be on to find a MUA and a few willing and able models ....

... The search is on! LOL!

Gotta try again!

I went to  the real estate office today to drop off my application for the house that we like and naturally I have to go back tomorrow.

Apparently they want everything all at one time and I was missing one piece of paper that I can't get until tonight  .. I was hoping that I could get Rob's part of the application started without mine but it would appear that even on paper we are joined at the hip! LOL! (And that my friends is always a good thing!)

So, tomorrow is yet another day to try again. Hopefully it wont be another sleepless night .. worrying about this house is just adding to my greys! LOL!

To rent or to buy!?!?!?

That is the question!

It's a no-brainer that renting is just a waste of money. Having said that we'd also love to be able to take our time and look for a home to purchase. But ... since we only have 3-4 weeks left to find a home in a city that we don't know, I'm thinking rental is still the way to go ... at least for a little while longer.

Here's a sneak peak on the house that we are considering renting.

It's got one of the strangest floor plans that I have ever encountered but I think it just might work for our family. I will explain more if we get the house. Stay tuned!

House hunting .. Fun Fun

I will be the first to admit that I don't like house hunting but today was actually fun. For the first time in my life I had the pleasure to check out my potential new home with the help of my family. My MIL & BIL took me around town today to show me the sights and while on route my hubby back in Texas sent me a text of a new house on the market to check out. So with the new address in the navigator we were off.

We all genuinely liked the house and think it would be a great fit for our family but I  must confess, all the while I was imagining what it would be like to have the entire family there in those walls ... and what I envisioned was good! This new house just felt right ... especially with them there in it with me.

So, having said that and after a long phone conversation with my hubby we plan to start the paperwork tonight to try and see if we can get this house.

Keeping our fingers crossed ... and keep ya posted!!!

The colors of northern fall :)

So I've never spent a fall outside of Texas and now I realize what I've been missing all this time. Now don't get me wrong .. this gall is and always will be a Texan through and through, but man I surely can see the appeal of living in the northern states (at least for the fall! I'm not looking forward to the snow!)

I've been spending my time just trying to get settled into my new job and city so I haven't really had a chance to take my camera out of the bag too much (I think I'm getting close to having withdrawal symptoms because of that!) but look at what I have been able to see and shoot. Some of these images were even taken with just my phone!

It's official, I'm not in Texas anymore!

Yeppers, as of the week I am no longer a Texas resident ...*gulp!*

I never thought the day would come where this Texas gal could ever utter those words and yet here that day is! I am now a resident of Kansas City, MO! I keep seeing KC Chiefs flags everywhere and I have to resist the urge to scream out "Go Cowboys!" ... think they would mind around here!?!?! LOL!

In all seriousness though, this move has been in the back of all our minds for the longest time, and this month my husband & I came to a crossroads in our life that we knew would eventually lead us out of my beloved state. So with our heads held high, our friends & family close to our hearts and our cowboy boots packed we made the move up north.

I sooooo can't wait to see what our new life adventure holds for us and I also know that my hubby is secretly waiting to see how the kids and I an handle the cold winter months! LOL! I can't lie here ... I'm a little curious to see how this Texas gal handles the cold too! I hear rumor that there is this soft white stuff called snow that falls from the sky a lot around here! Can't wait to see what that is all about!

Well, that's the short and brief version of it all. Please sign up for my emails & updates or at the very least make a promise that you will come back often to check on my chronicles of this new Kansas City backdrop that I will now be shooting in! This is gonna be great! I suddenly feel like a kid in a candy store as I see all my new surroundings .... I just GOTTA get out there and shoot something!!!!

Hugs, E.

September is all booked up!

Well, it's only the 4th of September and I'm officially fully booked for the month! Yeah! I've already been getting calls for high school seniors (which is a good thing) but my time is going fast. Did you know that when it comes to booking senior shoots, they usually need to be shot and canned by the holidays? This is because if a senior is wanting his/her photo in their year book they typically need to have it submitted before the New Year. And believe me, this in know for sure because I was the editor of my High School paper and worked next to the year book team often!

So keep those calls coming and lets keep shooting!
Many hugs, E.

Some action shots!

I had the luck of having two back-to-back newborn shoots in my studio last week! it sure has been a long time since I held a baby ... much less two but it was like riding a bike. And luckily, so was shooting in a studio again! I have to say that I was extremely happy with the outcome and how seamlessly they shoots worked out!
With some quick thinking on the second shoot I had my husband pick up one of the cameras and take some shots of me and the studio in action ...

Notice how closely we are all positioned next to the lights and reflectors ... things are always quite cozy on set!

Below you see me testing out my reflection shot. I use a teddy bear as my practice model to make sure I've got the scene just right before bringing in the baby. You'd be amazed at how quickly a sleeping baby will wake up once I pet them in the bowl! LOL!

Getting the studio ready!

Little by little we are getting my new studio ready! Am getting so excited! Since my last move destroyed many of my strobe lights (gulp) I have been practically getting ready from scratch! Yesterday I ordered a HUGE black backdrop and I will be purchasing some new studio strobe lights soon.

I commissioned my son to help me take some test shots with the lights that I was lucky enough to still have .. yeah for constant lights!

Here's a few test shots with the 'hot' lights'. They were taken with a combination of the lights plus the constant lights :)

Has it really been that long?

Wow! So I looked at the last time I posted on my blog ... sheesh!!! Where does the time go? So much has happened since my last posting that I hardly know where to begin! I guess the biggest deal in my life was that I moved out of San Antonio ... no wait ... I got married! ... no wait ... I'm getting a studio back ... did I mention that I got married!?!?!

OK, so that sums up my life! LOL! Keep your eyes peeled here on my blog for new updates and fun ... and don't worry about me falling off the map again because my awesome hubby is also my business manager and isn't afraid to take off the wedding ring to snap me into working my business! LOL!
